Yes! Although our office is based in Southern California, Patriot Conceptions collaborates with egg donors, intended parents, and clinics across the United States and internationally. If you are interested in becoming an egg donor, we invite you to visit our office in Costa Mesa, California. If you’re unable to travel, we can arrange a remote appointment via email, phone, or video conference.
Egg donors must be females aged 21 to 28 years old who are physically and mentally healthy, do not smoke or use drugs, and have no major genetic illnesses. These criteria are established to ensure the highest quality of eggs, thereby increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy. Adhering to these standards benefits both egg donors and recipients, and we strictly follow these guidelines for legal and quality assurance purposes.
The level of pain experienced during the egg retrieval procedure varies from person to person. This minimally invasive, outpatient surgery typically lasts about 30 minutes, followed by a recovery period of 30 to 45 minutes. The procedure is performed under light sedation, ensuring you feel no pain during the surgery.
Post-surgery, egg donors may experience grogginess and irritability due to sedation. Some donors report mild symptoms such as tiredness, cramping, or bloating, but these side effects are generally temporary and resolve after a few days of rest. Most of our egg donors report minimal pain and are able to resume normal activities the day after the retrieval.
At Patriot Conceptions, we do not provide medical advice or possess medical expertise. Your physician will be responsible for determining the appropriate medications for your egg donation process. Based on our experience, most egg donors start with a form of birth control to synchronize their menstrual cycle for approximately one month. Following this, IVF clinics typically administer an injection using a small insulin-type needle to stimulate the ovaries in preparation for egg retrieval. The duration of the injection cycle can vary between clinics, generally ranging from 2 to 4 weeks.
Once an egg donor is selected and matched, the entire process typically takes 8-10 weeks to complete. This timeframe includes medical screening, legal procedures, and the donation cycle leading up to the egg retrieval procedure.
After being accepted into the program and having your profile made available to intended parents, there is a waiting period for the matching process. This waiting period can vary widely, ranging from a few days to several months, depending on individual circumstances and matching needs.
Yes, you can! But you will need to specify the type and brand of your birth control on your application for reference. Please note that certain birth control methods, such as Depo-Provera, Nexplanon, or Implanon, may affect your eligibility. Donors using these methods will need to discontinue their use and have at least three regular menstrual cycles before being considered for admission.
According to the guidelines established by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the State Health Department, an egg donor can donate up to six times. Since all children conceived from a single donor are technically genetic half-siblings, there is a slight possibility that they may encounter each other later in life without realizing their familial connection, which could raise health concerns for their potential offspring.
Most donations are classified as “anonymous donations,” meaning that personal identifying information will be removed from your profile when presented to intended parents. Similarly, the identities of the recipients will remain confidential. At Patriot Conceptions, we prioritize the privacy of all parties involved, with confidentiality ensured and protected by legal agreements.
However, some donors may choose an “open donation.” In these cases, if all parties consent, we would be pleased to facilitate a meeting between you and the recipients.
If you live outside the local area (more than 60 miles from the recipients’ clinic), travel will be necessary. In such cases, Patriot Conceptions will handle all travel arrangements for you. Intended parents will cover all associated travel expenses, including airfare, transportation, and hotel accommodation.
Currently, there are no proven or clearly documented long-term side effects associated with the egg retrieval procedure or egg donation. In rare cases, 1% to 3% of donors may develop Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Your physicians will carefully monitor your condition to prevent any potential issues. Some donors might experience temporary symptoms such as bloating, nausea, or a slight sting from injections or medication. Rest assured, neither the medication nor the egg retrieval procedure will impact your future fertility or affect your ability to become pregnant.
Absolutely not. During the legal phase of the donation, recipients will establish full parental rights for the child. Egg donors will have no rights, responsibilities, or obligations regarding any children born from the donation. Further discussions can be made if both parties agree to keep in contact after the birth, but again no obligations or responsibilities are to be given to the surrogate.
As an egg donor, you will have specific responsibilities and commitments:
Health and Lifestyle Restrictions: During the donation cycle, you must avoid alcohol, smoking, vaping, illegal drugs, and any prescription or non-prescription medications without prior approval.
Abstinence: Abstain from unprotected intercourse during certain weeks of the cycle.
Appointment Scheduling: Most clinic appointments for blood tests or ultrasounds are scheduled early in the morning to minimize disruption to your work or school. However, you will need to take a full day off for the egg retrieval procedure.
Travel and Time Off: If travel is required, plan for approximately 5 to 14 days off. Doctor's notes can be provided upon request.
It is crucial to consider these responsibilities and adjust your personal schedule accordingly to determine if egg donation will impact your work or school commitments.
Becoming a surrogate is a rewarding journey, but understanding the process is crucial before you start. Here’s what you need to know:
Assess Your Eligibility: Ideal surrogates are typically between 21 and 38 years old, have previously given birth to at least one healthy child, and are in good physical and mental health.
Support System: Ensure you have a dependable support network in place, as surrogacy involves regular medical appointments and personal commitments.
Background Checks: Be prepared to undergo criminal background checks as part of the process.
If you meet these criteria and are ready to take this incredible step, we’re here to guide you through every phase of this rewarding experience. Please click here to see other requirements.
A surrogate mother becomes pregnant through assisted reproductive technology, commonly known as IVF (in vitro fertilization). In the IVF process, eggs are fertilized with sperm outside of the body. The resulting embryos are then transferred into the surrogate's uterus for continued development. If the procedure is successful, the surrogate will carry the baby for approximately nine months before giving birth.
Yes! Even if you have undergone a tubal ligation (commonly referred to as "having your tubes tied"), you can still become a surrogate mother. Tubal ligation prevents ovulation but does not affect the ability of an embryo to implant and develop in your uterus. Therefore, having had a tubal ligation should not be a barrier if you are considering surrogacy.
At Patriot Conceptions, we will select intended parents who meet your criteria and present your profile to them. Once we have interested intended parents, we will arrange a video interview via Skype or WeChat. After the interview, both you and the intended parents will have the chance to decide if you would like to proceed with the match.
Here’s an overview of what to expect during the IVF process:
1. Initial Consultation: A fertility specialist will review your medical history and perform a physical examination.
2. Fertilization: Eggs are fertilized with sperm in a lab dish. If sperm quality or count is an issue, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used, where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg.
3. Embryo Transfer: After fertilization, embryos are cultured in the lab until they reach the blastocyst stage. One or two embryos are then transferred into the uterus through a simple procedure called embryo transfer.
4. Pregnancy Test: About two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test will be conducted to determine if the IVF treatment was successful.
After an embryo transfer in a surrogacy arrangement, the surrogate will need to wait a few weeks to determine if the pregnancy has been successful. During this waiting period, it is crucial for the surrogate to prioritize both her physical and emotional well-being.
The surrogate should follow the fertility specialist's instructions, which may include taking prescribed medications, getting plenty of rest, and avoiding any activities that could jeopardize the embryo. Regular check-ups will also be necessary to monitor the pregnancy's progress.
If the pregnancy is successful, the surrogate will carry the baby to term and give birth. After delivery, the baby will be handed over to the intended parents, completing the surrogacy arrangement.
To become a surrogate, you must meet several key requirements:
1. Age: Be at least 18 years old.
2. Health Certification: Obtain certification from a medical professional confirming that you are healthy and capable of carrying a pregnancy to term.
3. Eligibility Criteria: Be a United States citizen and have no known medical conditions that could impede your ability to become pregnant.
Additionally, you will need an OBGYN to certify that you can carry a pregnancy to term and maintain a healthy pregnancy, along with clear documentation of your health history from a previous doctor.
While the IRS does not require 1099 forms for surrogacy payments, the tax implications of these payments can vary based on the specifics of the arrangement and state laws. To understand how your surrogacy payments may be taxed and to ensure compliance with any tax obligations, it is crucial to consult with a tax attorney or accountant for personalized guidance.
Becoming a surrogate mother involves a complex process with many steps. We recognize the legal, medical, and emotional aspects of surrogacy and are committed to making the journey as smooth and stress-free as possible. Our guidance and support will be with you every step of the way, ensuring a seamless experience for both you and the intended parents.
Patriot Conceptions is a veteran-owned surrogacy agency dedicated to exuding honor, integrity, and selfless service. We have over 15 years of combined experience and helped over 700 families to reach their parental goals. We are committed to providing exceptional services to all surrogates and families.
No worries! We will make the first step as simple as possible. Please book an appointment with our client specialist. We will learn your goals and walk you through the whole surrogacy process in steps. By the end of the first appointment, you will have all the information you need to know to make the right decision.
In gestational surrogacy, the baby is not biological-related to the surrogate. However, in traditional surrogacy, the baby has a biological connection with the person who carries the baby.
In gestational surrogacy, embryos are produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF), which utilizes sperm and eggs from the intended parent and/or sperm/egg donor. The embryo will be transferred to the surrogate after creation.
Because gestational surrogacy has nothing to do with the biological relation to babies, It is relatively easy to authenticate in terms of the law. You may prefer gestational surrogacy if you do not want a biological connection between the surrogate and your baby.
In the United States, surrogacy is considered legal, except for the following states:
-Michigan
-New York
Please note that in surrogate-friendly countries, the policy regarding when surrogacy is allowed may still vary from state to state.
We are headquartered in California which is one of the most surrogacy-friendly states and has many advantages toward selecting surrogates and the entire process.
Since we have 15 years of combined experience, many potential surrogate mothers and egg donors are referred to us by current or former surrogates or donors who have had positive experiences in working with our agency. We are also widely recruiting surrogate applicants on our website, online forums, social media, and other outreach efforts.
We are vigilant about monitoring and responding to all contacts we receive to determine their eligibility to become surrogates or egg donors to ensure a robust pool of prescreened, qualified candidates. We are proud to strictly follow the surrogate screening process.
Qualified surrogates or egg donors must be mentally and physically healthy. Surrogates must already have given birth to at least one child of her own with no major complications during pregnancy and delivery.
To qualify, surrogates and egg donors may not use illegal drugs or tobacco for a period of time and must meet many health and emotional wellness standards. Please see our surrogate screening process for more details.
Qualified candidates also are asked to confirm their commitment to the surrogacy or egg donation process, expressing responsibility for their decision to participate and confirming they have met our requirements. A comfortable, trusting relationship between intended parent(s) and the surrogate is essential, so we do our best to get that relationship started on the right foot with properly vetted and qualified candidates.
In January 2013, the State of California’s Family Code regarding surrogate arrangements was re-written to include the requirement of a notarized legal contract between the parties. Therefore, the intended parent or parents, surrogate, and surrogate’s husband all must sign the surrogacy agreement and have their signatures legally notarized.
The notarization is performed by a notary public, a person legally empowered to witness and certify the validity of documents and personal identity. In this case, the notary public will certify that you are the individuals signing the signature page of the surrogacy agreement. A valid, current photo identification card or passport will be required of all parties signing the agreement. The State of California implemented this change to ensure legal and parental rights to the child were provided to the proper individuals.
Surrogacy is aimed at couples who are unable to conceive or who have had multiple unsuccessful pregnancies. therefore, the eligibility requirements are quite restrictive. If you meet the eligibility requirements, and you want to help a family have the joy of welcoming and fulfilling the dream of having a baby, this is the right place for you.
Gestational surrogacy is often seen as the preferred option for intended parents because it allows them to have a biological connection to their child, and it may be more legally straightforward than traditional surrogacy (also known as straight surrogacy or partial surrogacy), in which the surrogate provides her own eggs and is therefore genetically related to the child.
In addition to the potential for a biological connection to the child, other potential advantages of gestational surrogacy include:
Reduced legal risks: In some jurisdictions, gestational surrogacy may be less legally complex than traditional surrogacy, as the gestational surrogate is not genetically related to the child and therefore may not have any legal rights or obligations with respect to the child.
Increased medical options: In gestational surrogacy, it may be possible to use assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create the embryo, which can allow intended parents to use donor eggs or sperm or to use their own eggs or sperm even if they have fertility challenges.
Increased flexibility: Gestational surrogacy may offer more flexibility for intended parents, as it allows them to choose the characteristics of the embryo, including the sex of the child and any genetic traits that may be passed on.

Michigan
Louisiana
Nebraska
New York

If you are using your own sperm and/or eggs, all medical testing must be conducted in the U.S. to meet U.S. Food & Drug Administration guidelines and clinic requirements. Besides, you will be required to come to California for the egg retrieval process and/or to leave your sperm sample.
You may expect to remain in California for a period of at least five to seven days while the pregnancy is attempted. It is recommended, but not required, that you return to California at least once during the pregnancy and, of course, for the delivery of your child.
Because you will not know the exact day and time when your surrogate will go into labor, you should prepare to come to California on short notice during the final month of pregnancy, or at least two weeks before your surrogate’s due date, if she is carrying one child. If your surrogate is pregnant with twins, you should plan for a sudden trip to California at least three to four weeks before the due date; for triplets, make plans to travel at short notice during the final two to three months. Be sure to maintain close contact with your surrogate and with SLS staff during the last trimester of pregnancy.
We highly recommend that all clients consider cord blood banking. Stored immediately after birth, the plasma from your baby’s umbilical cord can be used later in your child’s life to cure disease and potentially save his or her life.
We will provide information and resources for cord blood banking on request. However, arrangements for the procedure must be made in advance. If you decide to pursue cord blood banking, please let us know as soon as your surrogate becomes pregnant.

There are no specific requirements or qualifications that all intended parents must meet in order to become parents through surrogacy. In general, intended parents seeking to become parents through surrogacy should be in good physical and mental health, be financially stable, and be able to provide a stable and supportive home environment for a child. They should also be prepared to commit to the time and financial resources required for the surrogacy process.
The cost of becoming an intended parent through surrogacy can vary widely depending on a number of factors, including the type of surrogacy being pursued (gestational surrogacy or traditional surrogacy), the location of the surrogacy, and whether the intended parents are working with a surrogacy agency or an independent surrogate. On average, the cost can range from $90,000 to $150,000 or more. It's important to consider all the costs that may be incurred, including medical expenses, legal fees, and the cost of the surrogate's compensation.
